Member Tournament Standards
Rule Coherency
Member tournaments’ rulesets should not be abusable by any team in order to gain an unfair advantage.
Where rules potentially can grant any team an unfair advantage, hosts must be willing to change those rules, even during tournament runtime if necessary.
Where rules are seen as problematic by Circle Circuit (CC) members, and where member hosts are unwilling to change those rules, members may vote to remove that tournament from the league.
Tournaments must pass all badging criteria to be considered members.
Member tournaments must disallow any player currently on the Community Tournament Behavior Database from playing.
Prestige
Member tournaments must be eligible to receive in-game menu banners.
While visibility, viewership, and overall positive community perception are not mandatory for membership, overall prestige is used to determine CC Tier for each tournament.
Competition
Member tournaments must not have any upper rank restrictions or region restrictions, though they may be country-based. Ex. “World cup” -style tournaments. Lower rank restrictions are permitted as long as they do not impact the level of competition.
Tournaments with a format or mappool gimmick will be tiered lower on average.
Circle Circuit Points
Points given for a member tournament are determined by the CC Tier of the tournament.
The top 16 placing teams or players in a member tournament are awarded points based on the following distribution:
First: 30%
Second: 20%
Third: 15%
Fourth: 10%
Top 6: 5%*2
Top 8: 2.5%*2
Top 12: 2%*4
Top 16: 0.5%*4
Circle Circuit Tiers
SS Tier
12,800 points awarded in total.
These tournaments are the premier community events throughout the year.
S Tier
6,400 points awarded in total.
These tournaments feature intense competition and high stakes, but may not have the same level of community prestige during their runtime as SS-tier tournaments.
S- and A-tier may also include gimmick tournaments which fit the standards of higher tiers, but cannot approach the level of competition in higher tiers due to their format or restrictions.
A Tier
3,200 points awarded in total.
These tournaments are competitive throughout their runtime, but may not have as high of stakes, the same level of community prestige, or the same level of competition as other member tournaments.
Affiliate Tournament Standards
Affiliate tournaments are those tournaments which would otherwise meet member standards, but which cannot feature the same level of competition due to entry restrictions. Affiliate tournaments do not award CC Points, but are still featured in the CC discord server and advertised to spectators. These restrictions typically come in one of two forms: rank restrictions and region restrictions.
Rank Restrictions
Affiliate tournaments must have an upper rank limit of at most 5000.
Lower rank limits are allowed for both member and affiliate tournaments, so long as they do not impact the overall level of competition.
All rank restricted affiliate tournaments must be international. Though they may be country-based, affiliate tournaments may not be region-locked.
Region Restrictions
There may only be one affiliate tournament with a certain format from each region, e.g. there may not be two team-based Canada-only affiliate tournaments.
Region-locked affiliate tournaments must be the most prestigious tournament of that format in their region, as defined above and determined by existing member tournament hosts.
Standard Tournament
Operating Procedures
Members and Affiliates should abide by certain Standard Tournament Operating Procedures (STOPs) in order to set an example of how high quality tournaments should run in the osu! Community.
Production Quality
CC tournaments should, at minimum, be able to stream the most important matches in the bracket stage without issue. Streams should, at minimum, have a custom background over the tournament client along with commentary on the above-mentioned matches.
Commentary should add to, rather than distract from, the matches throughout the tournament.
Members should have forum posts which display the overall theme of the tournament appropriately.
Communication Standards
Members should conduct their tournament either through a public communication channel other than the forum post.
Tournaments which do not fit the typical format will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Weekly mappools and default schedules should be announced at least 72 hours before the reschedule close time. Reschedules made by players do not impact this rule.
Integrity
Members must meet the badge criteria.
Unless otherwise stated in the tournament’s ruleset, mappools should represent a wide variety of skill sets expected within the tournament scene.
Seeding within the tournament should represent the skill of the teams or players.
The tournament’s format and mappools should be oriented towards the best, as defined by the theme of the tournament, team or player winning.
Initial schedules should be as unbiased toward either team or player as possible.
